DC Universe Online & SOE Networks Down

May 2, 2011 in News

Nearly two weeks after Sony shut down PlayStation Network in order to harden their network from cyber criminals, it seems SOE has been a target too. While reports earlier indicated that SOE had some intrusions as well, at the time they didn’t feel the intrusions were related. The reason is Sony’s Online Entertainment network is completely separate from PlayStation Network. Today SOE announced they had more time to assess the situation.

Sony’s PSN Apology In A Nutshell

May 1, 2011 in News

Kaz Hirai explained that hackers probably broke in through an application server to access the PSN database, and that Sony was previously aware of this potential security hole. The company is working with law enforcement to figure out who took that data. A goodwill program to ease our weeks of offline gaming will include a free month of PlayStation Plus, a free month of Qriocity (their music service) and probably $20 worth of free select PSN content.

Prior to this hack, Sony’s servers were being attacked for a month and a half. But Hirai doesn’t think Anonymous was behind this particular intrusion. Either way, the new position of “Chief Security Officer” has been created for PlayStation Network, and everyone should ask their bank or credit card companies to  issue them new cards just in case that data was successfully stolen and decrypted.

How To Use Netflix While PSN Is Down

April 30, 2011 in News

I’ve been hearing from a lot of people that they can’t use Netflix now that PSN is down, or that they need to go back and forth in the menu to get it to work. It’s really not that hard.

Just keep pressing yes to sign into the network. After two tries (and two connection failures) you’ll be greeted by the Netflix front-page.

Call of Duty Dev Leaks PS4 Details

April 1, 2011 in News

Ever since the leak of The Last Guardian, Sony has held an iron grip on its developers, ensuring that nothing sensitive would ever get out again. And their strategy has worked well enough over the years, save for one tiny secret; the specs sheet for PlayStation 4.

Resident Evil Hunting In Squads?

March 25, 2011 in News, Rumor

Capcom has been keeping the zombie-hunting police of Raccoon City busy. Two RE titles are in development for the 3DS (Mercenaries and Revelations), an HD compilation of last-gen classics is in the works for PS3 and XBox 360, and if Official XBox Magazine is correct, there’s going to be a brand new Resident Evil for the current-generation consoles.
